A DAY IN DA LAT: WHAT A PREWEDDING SHOOT HERE ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
Updated: 2 days ago

Da Lat was one of the first places we ever brought a couple to shoot outside of Saigon.
We've been going back ever since.
Not because it's trendy — it's been on everyone's list for years. But because it keeps giving us something that's genuinely hard to find: a place where couples forget they're on a photoshoot and start actually enjoying being somewhere together.
That changes everything about the photos.
EVERYTHING IN ONE PLACE
Da Lat doesn't ask you to choose between one kind of landscape and another.
Pine forests, open hilltops, quiet lakes, rolling hills with morning mist still sitting in the valleys — it's all there, within a short drive of the city center. The cool weather means you can wear almost anything — a light dress, a coat, layers — without worrying about heat or sweat ruining the mood before the session even starts.
And the city itself has character. Old French colonial buildings, flower markets, small cafes tucked into narrow streets. It photographs well naturally, without needing much help.

GETTING THERE FROM SAIGON
About six hours by bus from Ho Chi Minh City, or just under two hours by plane.
For most couples, we recommend flying — the extra time you save is worth spending in Da Lat itself. The city rewards a slower pace, and arriving with energy rather than exhaustion makes a real difference to how the first morning feels.
HOW WE STRUCTURE THE DAY

This is the part most couples don't expect — and end up loving most.
We start early. Earlier than you'd probably choose on your own. The first light in Da Lat hits the lakes and hillsides in a way that disappears fast once the sun gets higher, and those early hours are genuinely worth getting up for. Cold air, dew on the grass, light that filters through pine trees at a low angle. It's the kind of morning that makes people slow down without being asked.
The first session usually happens at a lakeside, on a hilltop, or inside a pine forest — somewhere that takes advantage of the morning conditions. Couples who are nervous about being in front of a camera tend to relax faster in Da Lat than anywhere else we've worked. The environment does something that posing instructions can't.
By mid-morning, the temperature starts climbing. That's our cue to stop.
We head back, rest, have lunch, and let the city show you what it's actually like to spend time here. Local food, a café, a walk without a camera following you. This isn't downtime — it's part of the experience. The couples who enjoy this part of the trip the most also tend to be the most relaxed for the afternoon session.
In the late afternoon, we go again — more casual this time. A walk through the city, a café, wherever feels right. The pace is looser. The photos tend to be more natural. By this point in the day, most couples have stopped thinking about the camera entirely.
And if the sunset is good, we find a hill.
A Different Mood: Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel
For couples who want something more classic, the Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel is one of the most iconic settings in Vietnam. It first opened in the 1920s and has been carefully preserved, with the feel of an old European hotel.
It pairs well with a morning outdoors: one session in the pine forests and by the lakes, one in old-world rooms and gardens. Two very different moods, without leaving the city.
WHO THIS KIND OF TRIP IS FOR
Not every couple wants to pack five location changes into a single shoot day.
A Da Lat trip works best for couples who want to actually go somewhere — who want the photos to come out of a real experience rather than a schedule. You're not just getting a gallery. You're getting a day you'll remember on its own terms.
It's also a good option for couples who feel self-conscious in front of a camera. The informality of the day helps with that more than any direction we could give.
BEST TIME TO GO FOR A PREWEDDING IN DA LAT
November through May is when Da Lat is at its best for photography.
No rain, cool temperatures, and the greenery is at its most vivid. The light in the dry season is also cleaner and more consistent — easier to work with across a full day of shooting.
We'd avoid June through October if you can — the rainy season in Da Lat can be unpredictable, and wet weather limits where you can go and what you can wear.
If you're thinking about a Da Lat prewedding shoot and want to see what a full day looks like, our gallery has a few stories from couples who've made the trip.
